In Karnataka, if your voter record has wrong data and wish correct the details online, good luck! CEO-KA will gift you another vote absolutely free – but by disenfranchising another innocent voter.
Pankaj Lal and Gayatri Lal wanted to correct silly errors in their voter records at serials 406 and 493 in part 367 of constituency 151. Thanks to technology, they could do it online. See the before and after version of their records below:
Here is the bonus vote for them. The system has removed Sangeeta Shaw and Kamalamma from a different part and gifted their votes to Pakaj and Gayatri. Kamalamma is 80-year-old and if she goes to polling booth on 17th April, she will be told that her name is not in the rolls.
This kind of data corruption has been happening for long. CEO-KA has accepted that about 18,000 such cases occurred in Jan and Feb 2013. He has not restored the lost voters, and has not corrected the software or the processes to block this error. With every new version, thousands of additional innocent voters lose their voting rights and equal numbers of citizens get duplicate votes.
For repeated feedback and offers of help to correct this and several other serious issues with the electoral rolls, CEO-KA responded, “we know the problems and know how to solve them.”
