At the top of CEO-Karnataka home page is a link to National Voters’ Services Portal (NVSP) – claimed to be “One Stop Service.” The first [dis]service is “Search Your Name in electoral roll.” And there is a bonus for searching names at NVSP instead of at CEO-KA site. NVSP will make you an year younger. If your name is deleted and does not show up at CEO-KA site, NVSP will console you by declaring you a valid voter even if CEO-KA has disqualified you for being insane or convicted and unfit to vote. People dead in Bangalore come alive in Delhi. Those who have moved houses reappear in old abodes.
Additions and modifications made by CEO-KA appear truthfully, including the heinous errors of virtual deletion by over-writing records while modifying, appear truthfully at NVSP. This shows a partial synchronisation of databases.
I do not know the reason for duplicating voter databases at NSVP. However, if duplicated, they should remain synchronised with the databases maintained by CEOs. Unfortunately, even the very basic data discipline is not practiced by ECI organisation.
In addition, to fetch the same data, the queries at NSVP differ from those at the sites of CEOs.
What a site!
